Wedding Contest Winning Image For World's Best Wedding Photos "Party People" by Bradley Hanson

This photo of mine was just featured as a winning image in The World's Best Wedding Photos for their article on "Party People" from thousands of entries. It's an honor. To see more photographs from the article, you can click below. This photograph was at the beautiful Guthrie Theater in downtown Minneapolis, one of my favorite wedding venues anywhere.

Behind the scenes, I was walking around the wedding venue during the reception. I saw the guests all gathered in the far corner of the room on the 9th floor, overlooking the city. The light was strong from the nearby marquee. I held the camera up to my eye, waiting for that magic moment when the man in the back center looked up. One of the things I love about it, in addition to the composition and lighting, is that it is the guests truly caught in the act of being themselves.

Kathryn And Sam's Outdoor Wedding At Camrose Hill Flower Farm in Stillwater, MN by Bradley Hanson

Kathryn and Sam got married at the lovely Camrose Hill Flower Farm in Stillwater, MN, about 30 minutes outside of Minneapolis. It was my first time there, but I fell in love with the secluded venue and most of all, the lovely light. The ceremony was outdoors in an area surrounded by trees, so the diffused light from above on the dark, windy morning was like a studio softbox. It’s a short distance from downtown Stillwater, but it feels like it could be anywhere. It’s a beautiful blank slate for an elegant wedding.

Camrose Hill Flower Farm is now one of my favorite wedding venues of all time, and I look forward to photographing my next wedding there.

Rachael And Josh's Downtown St. Paul Wedding At A'bulae by Bradley Hanson

Rachael and Josh didn't let a little November rain alter their mood. The light at A'Bulae in downtown St. Paul was in abundance, and we did sneak up to the roof in the rain for a couple moments.

Jessica And Matt's Rainy Seattle Wedding On Lake Union's Skansonia Ferry by Bradley Hanson

Although the rain moved Jessica and Matt's wedding ceremony from the deck of the Skansonia ferry on Lake Union inside to the back of the boat, it was one of the happiest, most celebratory weddings I've ever been to in my 18 years of photographing weddings. I don't know if I've ever had this much fun at a wedding, or had the pleasure of being surrounded by people so vibrant and alive. Many thanks to the kind referral of my friend Lance Mercer for introducing the couple to me.
