Aniko And Aiden’s Beautiful Summer Wedding At The Minneapolis Event Center/Grand 1858 On The Mississippi River by Bradley Hanson

Aniko and Aiden originally came to me over two years ago, a referral from a friend’s wedding I photographed in 2016. I photographed them in late 2019, a few months before the pandemic hit. Like most of my 2020 clients, they moved their date to 2021 to insure that their out of town family and friends, mostly coming from New York and Florida, could attend their wedding in Minneapolis, MN.

It was, as has been the trend lately, a steamy, humid Minneapolis summer day. Despite that, it was an absolutely beautiful wedding, and the proximity of the Minneapolis Event Center/Grand 1858 to the Mississippi River helped moderate some of the heat. Planning and design was by the wonderful Lauren Goldfarb, and she made the daily run like a Swiss watch. Everyone had fun and it was an honor to be there to document it.

Photographic highlights from this lovely summer wedding are below. Clicking any image will bring it up at a much larger size and in its original format.

Brittany And Ted's Backyard Wedding On The Mississippi River In Northeast Minneapolis by Bradley Hanson

Brittany and Ted got married at film director Phil Harder’s Minneapolis Air BNB on the Mississippi River in Northeast Minneapolis, next door to The Sample Room. They did everything themselves and the rustic setting was augmented by golden sunset off the Mississippi River.

Katie And Ryan's Elegant Wedding And Reception At The Machine Shop In Northeast Minneapolis by Bradley Hanson

While Ryan was getting ready at The Depot Hotel in downtown Minneapolis, Katie was getting dressed at their apartment in St. Paul. Their wedding ceremony was at Our Lady Of Lourdes, the oldest church in Minneapolis, near the Mississippi River. Their reception was nearby at the lovely and spacious Machine Shop a couple blocks from Main Street. Between the ceremony and reception, we stopped at the Walker Art Center Sculpture Park.

Rather than going on about my photographic perspective of the day, I thought it would be more interesting for the reader to have some background information about the Katie and Ryan and how they met.

This is from Katie:

“It was June 2014, the summer before our senior year at Iowa State University (Ames, IA). I was at home in Wayzata, Minnesota, living with my parents and working at a wedding and event planning company. Ryan was spending the summer in Ames taking summer classes and living on campus.

One week in June, after a tough week at work, I decided to drive the 4 hours back to campus for a few days to visit my best friend, Megan. Shortly after arriving, we decided to go out to the bars. We stopped at a few before landing at Mickey’s Irish Pub around 10:00pm.

We walked up to the bar and stood in line for a drink before I noticed a tall, handsome and red pant-wearing Ryan. In my college years, I was quite set on finding a “preppy” boy. They were fairly uncommon on campus and when I saw his red pants, it caught my attention. Megan encouraged me to talk to him and when I finally introduced myself, I mentioned something about how I liked his pants. He kindly thanked me and our conversation began to flow. Before we knew it, 2:00am had struck and the bouncer was making his rounds to kick everyone out. We exchanged numbers and parted ways.

I can’t explain it, but something inside of me really felt like he was “the one.” It just clicked. In the days that followed, I told my friends all about him. The two of us texted back and forth for awhile before I returned back to school in August. As we started our fall semester, we began to hang out more and more and in October we officially started dating. By February we had said “I love you.”

In the past 4 years, we have grown to love each other more every day. Our wedding day was absolutely perfect in every way and we feel so blessed to have exchanged vows with so many loved ones by our side! We’re looking forward to many more beautiful years together!”

Marcus and Paige's Guthrie Theater Winter Wedding in Downtown Minneapolis by Bradley Hanson

Paige and Marcus insisted on all B&W coverage. In other words, my dream wedding (despite 3F degree January winter weather). They started at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist church and the reception was at the modern Guthrie Theater in downtown Minneapolis, overlooking the Mississippi River and Stone Arch Bridge. The reception area, on the 9th floor of the Guthrie, is known as the "amber box" because of it's dark yellow glass and bright red lights bathing it in light.

Jessica And Ben's Elegant Mill City Wedding In Downtown Minneapolis by Bradley Hanson

Jessica and Ben had me come to Chicago for their engagement session photos, and we spent a couple days together. We started feeling like friends, which was extended when they invited us to a Minnesota Twins game and party the night before their wedding. Nearly a year later, their beautiful wedding in Minneapolis at the Mill City Museum (elegantly transformed by the talented Amy Fuerstenberg), was even more elegant than I imagined, and my wife and I left the wedding feeling like family.

Si And Nathan's Outdoor Park Wedding In Minneapolis by Bradley Hanson

I got to know the impeccably dressed Si and Nathan during their engagement session 11 months ago when it was below zero, but they still looked great and happy. Fast forwarding many months later to the morning of their wedding, we started near the Nicollet Island Inn. Their ceremony was at Central Mississippi River Regional Park in NE Minneapolis (near Broadway Avenue bridge) on the banks of the Mississippi River, and their reception was at The Bachelor Farmer in Minneapolis. A nearly perfect day!
